Trophy Hunter 2003
"Best hunting game ever!!!!"
I got into the hunting game craze back with deer hunter and I have enjoyed
hunting games ever since. However, hunting games are not for everyone and if the
idea of hunting in real life is not appealing to you then these games won't be
either. Hunting is mainly about patience and marksmanship which means you wait
around for a long time probably up in a tree and then when you finally see
something to shoot at you try to kill it without it running away. Most people
are already familiar with what hunting games are all about, but I submit this
for those newbies who have no idea and don't know what they might get into to.
Anyways, th2003 is the best hunting game to date even surpasing other hunting
games from the same company. I don't know what happened, but infogrames released
3 hunting games and only one of them is good. Maybe they were testing out some
new things, but who knows. All I know is that this game is the best hunting game
ever made so far and if you like hunting games this game is a must have.
GAMEPLAY:
The best and most significant change is the fact that there is no more mouse
pointer during the hunt. In the past you could roam around and click on a menu
at the bottom of the screen to choose what gear you wanted to use, but now
simply right-click on the mouse and it scrolls through your gear making it a lot
faster. If you want even faster just hit a number from 1-0 and you can get to
your gear that way as well. A lot of things are automatic now like getting on
your tree stand; before you would have to find it and then point and click, but
now as soon as you get in range all you have to do is hit 0 and your up. These
things might not seem like a big improvement, but it really makes the game
faster, less annoying and easier. This is mainly because before to look around
with your mouse you would have to hit the ''walk and look'' button and until it
was pressed your mouse pointer ruled the screen. Now you are always ''Walking
and looking'' so you can react faster when you see some game. Mind you this game
has ''dangerous animals'' so if you spend too much time clicking through gear
you could get chomped on. What is a nice touch is that now since you always
''walk and look'' when you select your weapon you hold it on your shoulder like
in real life when before you either had to point it at something or not see it
on the screen at all.
The game ai is very good and much improved from th3. In th3 no matter how many
times you spooked an animal it would always come back and fast, but now if you
majorly spook an animal it is gone. I say majorly cause to me there are
different levels of spooking. I have startled an animal so that it walks or
strolls away, but not in a dash for life. This is a nice addition since it is
realistic and makes the game more fun since you don't always have to move to
another spot after spooking the animals. This is a tremendous improvement when
in past games a spooked animal would dash all the way to the other side of the
map which made for very annoying hunts.
Another addition that makes this game awesome is the experience system. It's
kind of like a rpg, but instead of getting exp you get points that you use to
better certain hunting skills like tracking or sneaking. This makes the game
much more fun and it adds to the personality of you own character. Your
marksmanship also gets better with every kill.
The only downside to the gameplay is the lack of variety among the same type of
animals. The only thing that sets two elk that you bagged apart are the weight.
It would be nice to have a rack point count like in deer hunter, but this
setback is shadowed by all of the other great features.
GRAPHICS:
This is the best graphics I have seen in any hunting game. This game has UT2003
graphics as well as its speed. I hate games that have good graphics, but then a
ton of lag. This game is not one of those that say you can run it fine on a 1ghz
or higher and then when you set the graphics to high you see how slow it really
is. I run it with everything high on a 1.1ghz cpu with 512ram and it flies. No
slowdown, just nice graphics and awesome animal animations. Which reminds me
that these animals are the most real I have seen. I feel like I'm looking at a
real elk sometimes. You just have to see it to believe it.
The graphics for the flora are also unbelievable. These are the most realistic
trees and ground textures I have seen. When everything blends together you
almost forget that you are playing a game. You could take a screenshot of the
scenery and pass it off as a wallpaper of a real forest scene.
SOUND:
The sound is great too. It really sounds like your in the woods. The calls and
animal sound are great too.
Like I said if you like hunting games you have to have this game. It is the best
hunting game ever made, to date.
